We have been reviewing Cambridge Network over the past month, looking over what we have been doing for twelve years, what we could be doing and taking account of views from a wide range of members and stakeholders. We have had useful discussions following on from our open event and also from a number of meetings with individual organisations.
An overwhelming majority of members and potential or past members want Cambridge Network to continue raising Cambridge’s game by bringing people together and collaborating for shared success.
Our 1500 members are diverse and requirements are different but there are five things that we want to press on with immediately:
- Events – sharing ideas and bringing business to Cambridge
- Collaborative learning
- Recruitment to Cambridge
- Directories – companies, skills and news
- Shared services for other networks and interest groups.
Some of these are a straight continuation of what we do today, and some will be improvements when we have the support of a new and robust website.
We have taken part in a number of events and lots of collaborative learning sessions whilst we’ve been thinking:
- Hermann Hauser speaking about next generation computing courtesy Citrix;
- The Governor of Massachusetts visiting IfM for discussions on collaboration;
- James Caan and Barry Ridgway (Microsoft) at the Moller Centre, courtesy of Taylor Vinters;
- Nigel Risner motivating us courtesy Red Gate and Sir Erik Peacock;
- Inaugural meeting of a Cambridge policy research group at the Guildhall with David Howarth of University of Cambridge, Cambridge City Council, Rand Europe, idenk and GO-East;
- The value of online networking sites in the marketing mix, event courtesy Murdoch MacDonald, Jenny Chapman and Clydesdale Bank;
- Technology & Innovation Leaders with BP, IfM and Prof Gordon Edge;
- Health Axis Europe round table discussion on biotechnology and telemedicine;
- Around 20 shared learning sessions and regular membership events.
The one thing we haven’t been doing to date is blogging – apologies! If you have read this and would like us to keep writing, with more of a blog style next time … just let us know
